The Eureka Chamber of Commerce, February general membership meeting was alive with networking, sharing business promotional materials, and news and business opportunities. Chamber President Dr. Patrick Feder gave Participants the opportunity to introduce themselves and announce upcoming special events for their businesses.

The one-hour lunch brought members up to date on city news of the traffic intersection changes, the parks ice rink, the Walgreen project and the pending Highway “W” address change to the intersection of “W” and “FF.”

Tim Jones, Alderman, announced the slogan contest for the new welcome signs celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the incorporation of Eureka.
Judy Brown, Eureka Chamber Tourism Chairperson shared her committee’s progress and 2004 goals with an invitation to the members for new ideas.

Angela Weeks, Membership Chairperson announced the businesses offering discounts to Chamber members and invited others to participate.
President Feder asked members to get the word out regarding reminding students to apply for the $1,500 scholarships that will be awarded to the two graduating seniors this year. Other Chamber related announcements included a Bicycle Race has been scheduled for April 18, members can post event announcements on the Chamber Web Site, and the Historical Society is looking for sponsors leading nto the 150th anniversary of Eureka’s founding. The Eureka Police and Fire Departments, led by Police Chief Mike Wiegand and Deputy Fire Chief Randy Gabel provided an introduction to Citizen Emergency Response Teams (CERT) raining. The classes, which are funded by the federal government train participants regarding preparedness kits, first aid, search and rescue and other disaster response know how. At the conclusion of the meeting, drawings were held for free advertising on the Chamber web site and in the Chamber Chatter, as well as for a free lunch at the general membership meeting. A value book was given free to every member with additional books for sale at half price.
